Inside PurpleAccounts
Husband and wife team David Parker ACMA Chartered Management Accountant and Helen Parker, MCIM (Marketer), set up PurpleAccounts in 2007 from the spare room.
David actually grew up in a local corner shop, and has small business in his blood, fully understanding the difficulties that running a small business can bring. Having gained professional accountancy qualifications and vast experience within larger organisations, David has come full circle, working with and developing small businesses. “This is what l love doing. Working with business owners is highly rewarding - seeing businesses develop right before my eyes”. This philosophy is at the heart of PurpleAccounts.
Helen’s expertise is in Marketing. Responsible for creating and developing the PurpleAccounts brand, this expertise is a valuable resource we offer to all PurpleAccounts customers. Helen has worked for the likes of Japan Airlines, British Airways, UK local government and Island CSP’s. Helen is now focusing her skills towards giving our customers ‘brandability’ and running the PurpleAccounts operation.
The PurpleAccounts idea was simple - offer a low fixed monthly fee, free advice and make efficient use of technology by providing a secure online portal 24/7 for customers to be able to view their accounts and reports free of charge.
This turned accountancy on its head in the Island, as no longer did businesses have to wait a whole year to see exactly how their business was performing.
The message spread and within 2 months a small office that we could lease for a reasonable rate was sourced.
Not long after, the move was made to ‘shop front’ premises on Victoria Street, Douglas, where the business continues to grow and further establish its reputation as a company dedicated to servicing the needs of small businesses.
PurpleAccounts received ‘The Best Of’ ‘Best New Business’ 2008 and also became finalists in the Isle of Man Newspapers ‘Awards for Excellence’2008 for excellence in innovation AND again in 2009 for excellence in customer service. A true achievement and testament to our dedication and commitment to the Island's small business community.
Our ‘Nosh & Network’ small business networking events have always proven to be very popular and further events are planned throughout 2010. This offers small business owners the opportunity to meet likeminded people, swap cards, chat about the highs and lows, share ideas and perhaps even do business.
We value all of our customer comments (we ask how happy they are quite a lot!) as to how we can further improve our services. Manifested by the fact we have acted upon any valid suggestion and continue to strive to exceed the very high standards we set ourselves.
It has been an amazing adventure so far, albeit very hard work, but isn’t everything in life worth
having, hard work?
